DC ultra-fast charging with low grid connection
When the power grid is weak, conventional ultra-fast charging is often difficult or expensive to establish. With the right combination of DC charger, battery and controller, it is still possible to deliver fast charging without waiting for a large grid expansion.
The Challenge
Many locations need fast charging but lack the necessary grid capacity. This may be because the local power grid is weak, because an upgrade is expensive and slow, or because the plant only needs to be in place temporarily.
This typically applies to companies, public areas, destinations, construction sites and other places where the need for high charging power is real, but where the supply cannot easily keep up.
This is where the battery makes the difference
A battery-integrated HPC charger can charge the battery continuously from a smaller grid connection and deliver high power when the cars need it. It provides a more flexible solution than dimensioning the entire project according to the maximum peak load.

This is how we build the solution
We look at network connection, user profiles, desired charging speed and physical location. We then assess whether the project should be built with battery-integrated DC charging, classic load management or a combination, so that the plant fits the actual operation.
It makes it possible to consider both installation time, total economy and future scaling from the start.
Focus on operations from day one
When the effect is limited, it is crucial that the solution is well thought out in practice. That is why we think about support, monitoring, prioritizing users and daily operations from the beginning.
The result is a solution which not only looks right on a drawing, but which works stably in reality and is easy to work with for both owner and users.
Try a simple power calculator
The calculator below shows a theoretical peak output for a battery-integrated DC charger at low grid connection. It takes into account that the charger’s internal battery cannot replenish indefinitely, and that the power therefore drops back to a more sustainable level when the boost energy is used.
Typical charging profile
With battery boost at the start
0
Assumes the vehicle can receive the shown power throughout the period.
The charger starts with high power using the internal battery. When the battery boost is used, charging continues with the power the grid connection can carry.
0 kW
Total power for 1 or 2 vehicles at start under ideal conditions.
0
Time when battery boost is used up.
0 kW
Continuous power (kW) based on the grid connection.
How to read the calculation: Peak output is a theoretical maximum, where the charger’s internal battery supplements the grid connection. Once the available boost energy is used up, the power falls back towards a more sustained level.
If you select 2 vehicles, the calculation assumes the same battery size and SOC range on both vehicles.
The calculation assumes that the vehicle can receive the peak power during the entire boost period. Actual charging power and charging time depend, among other things, on SOC, temperature, battery condition, charging curve, vehicle specifications and the specific installation.
Typical challenges we solve
- Too few amps available locally
- Long waiting time or high price for upgrading the electricity supply
- High installation costs for traditional ultra-fast charging
- Temporary or movable locations
- Need for quick establishment and simple operation
Relevant uses
This type of solution makes sense when the need for fast charging is now there, but the infrastructure lags behind. This can be for businesses, transport, public spaces, destinations, events or projects with time-limited placement.
Value for the customer
- Ultra-fast charging, even where the grid is a limitation
- Faster path from need to finished solution
- Flexible setup at both permanent and temporary locations
- Option to use energy smarter throughout the day
Not standard for standard’s sake
We do not recommend battery-integrated DC charging in all projects. But where the grid connection is the bottleneck, it can be the most realistic way to high charging power, better economy and a solution that can actually be established within a reasonable time.
Shall we assess your location?
We help clarify whether DC ultra-fast charging can be done at your location, and whether a battery-integrated solution is the right way in terms of network capacity, installation, operation and economy.
